Quinceaños

Quinceañeras

The Quince Años celebration is a renewal of baptismal promises and a moment of giving thanks to God for the gift of life in the presence of family and friends in a special Mass. The ritual emphasizes the passage from childhood to adulthood. Unlike baptism or confirmation, a Quinceañera is not a Catholic sacrament. It is a cultural ritual within the Hispanic community that solidifies the Quinceañera's commitment to her Catholic faith.

PRE-REQUISITES
The Quinceañera:

  • Should be attending Mass with her family on a regular basis. It is ideal if she is also involved in some aspect of ministry in the parish;
  • Must be a Baptized Catholic, received First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and be enrolled or confirmed in the Sacrament of Confirmation (proof of sacraments due upon registration);
  • Must have two full years of attending Religious Education Classes prior to the intended date of Mass;
  • Must continue to attend Religious Education Classes during the year of the event and promises not to miss more than 10% of these classes (attendance will be taken); Non-parishioners will need a letter from their parish community concerning enrollment in religious education classes;
  • Must attend the Quinceañera Retreat offered by the Missionary Sisters of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph prior to the intended date of Mass (certificate of attendance must be provided to the Parish Office three months prior to the Mass);

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Quinceañeras are scheduled at least 12 months in advance of the intended date of celebration (no exceptions) (for example: Intended date of celebration is August 2022, then parent and quinceañera may register at the parish office in August 2021);
  • Quinceañera must meet all the pre-requisites listed above and submit Sacramental Record(s);
  • Parent and Quinceañera will complete a Request Form in the Parish Office;
